Commercial Photographers: Business Portraits, Boston
David Shopper is a Boston-based commercial photographer who captures business portraits that brand companies. David specializes in creating authentic and spirited photographs for advertising, digital communications, team bio pages, about us pages, brochures, reports, outlook portraits, and company websites.
This is a casual and honest portrait of Endeavour Partners' Chairman Michael Davies in his office. The corporate rebranding was art directed by Toronto-based creative Laura Wills of Messenger Design http://www.mssngr.com. David uses only natural light to capture these headshots. Natural light allows David to capture authentic moments in the business workplace: Michael is surrounded by his tech and his notes. The white board musings are almost thought bubbles with the way they are positioned behind Michael’s head – I believe a good portrait works on many levels, and showing the inner workings of the mind in a portrait is a great way to add an extra level of introspection to the image.
Many years ago, I would have used strobe lights to shoot this image, but more and more of my work has been natural light. This is a great example of why natural light works so well: not only does it look authentic in its presentation, but subjects feel more comfortable without the bright flash. Especially people who aren’t used to having large soft boxes in their face. The more I look at strobe-lit photos, the more manufactured they seem and the more I gravitate towards natural light.
