REMOTE OFFICE HEADSHOTS – 01.05.22
With so many people working from home now, isn’t it time to start thinking about remote office portraits?
Not everyone feels comfortable being in the office nowadays. Is there an option for producing dynamite office portraits remotely? In a word: yes.
My longstanding client Selecta Bioscience recently asked me to refresh the look of the executive team portraits. Most of the team is working remotely. The one opportunity where they were all gathered together was at a company-wide harbor cruise.
So we set up a natural light portrait studio on the boat. Everyone felt comfortable being outside and we completed the photography before anyone started to feel seasick (not a problem I’ve had to deal with a lot).
After the cruise, we captured out-of-focus background images at Selecta’s offices, and then merged the backgrounds with the portraits. The cool blue color (with an orange accent) is intentional, as it matches the corporate brand palette of their website.
I had originally thought of this process as a one-off solution to an unusual problem, but the more I look at the images, the more I see how photographing the people separately from the background gives us a unique look. It’s dramatic and powerful. It allows you to mix and match people and places to get the best fit. And it might be a bit safer too.
"Not only does David have a great eye as an artist, but a great way about him. This translates in the final product because our employees like him so much." - Catherine Vesey, People Operations Manager, Selecta Biosciences.
